Monday Message

"Preparedness, when properly pursued, is a way of life, not a sudden, spectacular program. We could refer to all the components of personal and family preparedness, not in relation to holocaust or disaster, but in cultivating a life-style that is on a day-to-day basis its own reward." (President Spencer W. Kimball)

I want to encourage you to actively be working on your home storage and especially your basic skill building.

Are you prepared if a hard time befalls you and your family? Take a real hard look...what do you have?  What do you know how to do?

The best we can do is to think ahead and plan to prepare for what your family would need.

So start with the basics and build on those.

I feel like the pandemic has shown a light on weak spots...

Some could not get bread nor could they get the supplies to make bread, but people learned things like sourdough.

So learning is right up there with supplies. Having both at hand is best when hard times arise.

  2. What a cute little pencil pouch! You did an awesome job on that (and plaid, my favorite!). I bookmarked the pattern for future use.

I'm getting better at using up everything I can. I had an apple going soft on me, so I chopped it up and threw it into the muffin batter I made last night (and baked for breakfast this morning. They were delicious!), and I saved the skins I peeled off to go into the dehydrator, to be ground up later for baking. Things like that add a little bit of nutrition and flavor along the way, and it keeps me thinking about how to use things up and be creative!

I'm homeschooling my daughter now, because I'm not feeling great about everyone suddenly deciding the pandemic is completely over and no one needs to take any precautions anymore. The good thing is that I homeschooled my son years ago and still have most of the materials I used (because I was worried I'd end up needing them again! Boy, did they come in handy when the schools closed down right along with the libraries!). This is another area where being creative really comes in handy. I'm looking forward to the weather warming up so we can do some outside projects. :)

I've got a goal to learn how to darn socks- someone was giving away a bag of darning thread on Freecycle, which fit right into my goals; now I just need to find the time to work on this, amidst all the homeschooling and regular cooking and cleaning! :)

    Stay safe!
