"Let us be in a position so we are able to not only feed ourselves through the home production and storage, but others as well." (President Ezra Taft Benson)
I want to tell you what my mother-in-law told me years ago. She said never ever go into debt for Christmas but to give within your means instead. Very good advice.
The ones you give to would not want to know you will be making payments all year on their gift.
If people gave me gifts I would want food storage items, totally would love it!
So parents think about food storage gifts for your kids away from home. Add family favorite recipes, how fun is that?
If you know someone struggling, make them a food care package, be sure to toss in chocolate and goodies with it.
It is not too early think on gifts for giving at Christmas time.

I have given you great places to start.
I again say give food storage. I was able one year to give a case of veggies, another year an oil lamp set.
So think of those you give to and please stay in budget.
Keep working on storage and keep working on skills and start working on Christmas.
Do it with love.
Some of our best gifts were good gifts we received from an uncle....home canned beans, jams and jellies. We received ham slices one year. Great gifts!
ReplyDeleteyes with prices going up and i heard the shortage on trucker prices will go up again it said on the news. gifting within our means blesses everyone.
DeleteThat is a great idea. I always dry a lot of fruit and give each child a gallon jar of mixed dried fruit. They love it. My daughters have found my frugal debt blog and their comments are far better than the blog.
ReplyDeleteooooh the jar of fruit sounds so yummy thanks for sharing it is a great idea
DeleteI was rereading Brandy's post and comments from it from July 2015 on what she was going to buy and her thoughts on things going down hill. Her feelings that we need to stop up more Now. I saw your comment and clicked on your name and came here. I am soooooo glad I did!! I do keep a stock up but see I can in this one site, learn so much more to help my family. Even tough I have been married and a homemaker for 47 years doesn't mean I can't learn a lot of new things!! Thank you so much for your blog. I can't imagine how many hours your work to do it. Sarah
ReplyDeletewe have been married 43 yrs well i am glad you found us and like the blog
DeleteDon't you think with all the terribly bad weather across the country you can expect fruit and other prices to go up? Also in California gas prices went up 12c more a gallon this week due to new taxes. That will affect things too. I tried for 3 years to get stevia plants to grow and finally this year they did. I hope to get a few more fruit trees and some more berry vines soon. We only have room for a little more on the property. We started giving each other an item for our preparedness. Homemade rocket stoves or a good knife or dried food we did, seeds , even home made compost already in a pot with mix and pack of seeds or tree to go in it!! :) The ideas are endless. A gift of time to teach a skill to someone would be a good gift for sure. Sarah
ReplyDeleteyes we will have prices to pay for storm damage .... we too give food storage on our bdays anniversary and such ...thanks for your ideas.
