Monday Message

"As we do our very best, we can be confident that 'the barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail.' We shall enjoy greater wisdom, security, peace of mind, and personal well-being. We shall be prepared, and because we are prepared, we 'shall not fear.'"  (Bishop Keith B. McMullin)

We got ten inches of snow at the time I wrote this, following it is bitter cold temps.

The funny thing is before the storm came I walked to the mailbox and look what I found in the garden...

Parsley! I could not believe it!! We have had temps that felt like -20 to -35. We have had snow storms and still it was there. I call that pretty amazing. Not something you would see here in Central Iowa in the middle of January.

With this current snow storm it was nice to be inside warping the table top loom. We call her Baby Bertha since the other loom is called Big Bertha.

Having extra on hand made it easy to stay home while the storm raged on.

The other thing is we need to all be safe. The cloth masks are not good enough protection against Omicron, use an N95 or a  Kn95. I heard on the news last night that the Omicron wave is heading to the Midwest. So I expect it to be much worse than it is now and now is pretty bad. We got an email from the hospital saying they were having a high volume of upper respiratory patients and they were having a list of what to do if you suspected you might have Covid. They also said wait times were going to be longer.

My doctor said things are really really really bad and not to go anywhere near a hospital right now so hoping we won't need to.

Missy said now more than ever be safe.

Gus says find a place to be cozy and stay put.

  2. Thank you, Missy and Gus! I've been wearing my N95 when I have to go out, and we'll be getting more soon. I'm not taking any chances! I'm next door to you in the Chicago suburbs and the roads were terrible this morning when I took my daughter to school. Nothing was plowed yet, and it felt like something off of The Long Winter trudging her into school, the snow was so deep! I came home and spent the day cross-stitch. I was going to finish my project tonight, but the cat took up residence on my lap and said no. :)

  3. I love seeing pictures of your loom! Always so colorful. My friend here weaves, as well. She has a wall full of colored threads that looks like an intentional decoration instead of supplies.

I knew you were in Iowa, but didn't know what part. You don't need to be specific, but I wanted to tell you my husband applied for a job there 2 hrs. ago. We really didn't want to leave Kansas, but sometimes you just gotta do stuff. We visited the Ames area for 5 days and so enjoyed it. He interviewed 2 days and we spent the rest of the time on a mini vacation! We looked all over ISU and the area was so pretty. We would've lived about an hour NE of there. The only town I remember looking at homes in was Eldora. I kept thinking it was Elvira! He was offered a local job about a week after we got back, but I'm glad we got to visit. I love exploring the Midwest. There's so much charm and beauty. At some point, I'd like to visit the eastern side of Iowa.

Cold morning here so it's hard to get moving after my morning Bible study under a cozy blanket! I need to organize a couple of closet shelves and finish gathering up the tax stuff.

My current lap project is embroidery. I'm doing quilt squares for my church group. Butterflies! Our sale was cancelled again this year due to Covid. Our quilts are stacking up. We probably have 40 now!

Eating a lot from the freezer. I was excited to find a buried and very meaty ham bone so I made a big crock of pinto beans. They were delicious! Tonight is Peppery Beef. It's sort of a stroganoff.

    Have a good week!

    1. If you had known you could have stopped in we are ten miles south of Ames I am getting kind of tired of cold brrrrr. Oce the scarf is done I need to move over to the floor loom and work on the dish towels. But I love working on this little loom while watching TV.

  4. Our counts are going down here in Michigan so different parts of the country face this omicron at different times. Yet the numbers of infected are still high so we have a way to go.
It's very cold here below zero not quite at your degrees though. It's good to have something to keep us busy.
