Monday Message

"Wood, coal, gas, oil, kerosene, and even candles are among those items which could be reserved as fuel for warmth, cooking, and light or power. Some may be used for all of these purposes and certain ones would have to be stored and handled cautiously. It would also be well to have on hand some basic medical supplies to last for at least a year." (President Ezra Taft Benson)

"Concerning clothing, we should anticipate future needs, such as extra work clothes and clothes that would supply warmth during winter months when there may be shortages or lack of heating fuel. Leather and bolts of cloth could be stored, particularly for families with younger children who will outgrow and perhaps outwear their present clothes." (President Ezra Taft Benson)

"Most of us cannot afford to store a year’s supply of luxury items, but find it more practical to store staples that might keep us from starving in case of emergency." (James E. Faust)

At the time of writing this blog post horrible things are happening in Ukraine. Our hearts and prayers go out to those people who are being affected.

It sure seems that in this day stuff like that should not be happening.

It makes us think more on our own preparedness.

I have still been spring cleaning here.

I cleaned the cone yarn shelf, unloaded it, wiped it down, wiped the bags I had over the yarn and bagged the yarn I didn't already have in bags, then reorganized it.

I have been working on the dishcloths. I think they are working up nicely.

I have gotten out a few projects I wish to work on as well as the ongoing ones by my chair.

I have done a little spinning when I can.

I have been rearranging the bedroom and bookshelf and putzing around at odd jobs.

Do you remember when I talked about making a food storage binder? - http://frugalmeasures.blogspot.com/2015/03/monday-message_23.html

It might be a good time to revisit that and keep building it. Keep building your skills. Incase we are in for harder times ahead, it is good to know what you can use instead of eggs. For example, because of the conflict in Ukraine we will see higher prices and should brace ourselves. Learn what are some of the most frugal meals your family enjoys and put them in your meal rotation.

Try getting a few extra canned goods when you get groceries. I am sure we will have more shortages.  We want to be able to weather through what lies ahead.

We need to find ways to live more frugally.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P26nU_a5gHc - how to make cloth diapers. If you don't want to make them then just purchase cloth diapers and plastic pants and diaper pins...not fun but oh my, so so very much cheaper!

Think of ways you can save. What do you spend a lot on? Look for ways that perhaps you can make those things yourself.

I like how she says make friends with our sewing machines. Yes, we need to learn all that they can do to help us.

Gus says that we need to keep an eye on what is going on and make sure you are beefing up skills and storage, especially cat nibbles.

Missy says we need to make do with what we have on hand.

  1. I have never seen such a huge quantity nor wider variety of craft items than seem to be stored in your craft room. You have quite the creative heart and mind.

What do you do with this tremendous output when you complete them?

    1. My craft room is very tiny... This yarn cone shelf is actually not in craft room it sits just off the living room. The cone Yan came to me all for a hundred dollars it has truly been worth every penny I think it must have come from a fiber studio it went to an auction house that did not want it they only wanted the furniture so I bought the yarn. It also was fifty two knitting machine and knitting books so that hundred dollars went very far. I have given some away and mostly I give gifts homemade using it and other items I have been learning new skills using them too. Yard sales over the years have aided in items I could not have gotten new at all. The shelf you see behind is basket making supplies I make baskets too which make great gifts. The green bookshelf my husband made for me. It is filled with yard sale items I am thankful to my past self for doing the hard work of the yard sales..i didn't have fibromyalgia back then....so now I have the supplies on hand to build my skills more and I don't have to pay new prices especially at today's prices. The rubber stamps came because I sent daily cards to people who were shut ins who have since passed away I will do that again at some point. I have shared quite a bit over the years too..it has really been a blessing

Y TODO SE TRASLADA A LOS ALIMENTOS A LAS NECESIDADES BASICAS, ¿QUE VAMOS A HACER? YA NO NOS ALCANZA EL DINERO, ME SIENTO ALGO INQUIETA EN ESTE ASPECTO, QUE DIOS NOS AYUDE. ¿COMO HACES PARA QUE NO SE TE ENREDEN LAS LANAS? 1. Yes we all will be having to stretch what we do have for sure there will be hard times ahead.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W-X3X-r8RKw this shows how to wind a center pull ball you can do this on a piece of wood or even a toilet paper tube so if you are doing this from a ball of yarn just toss the yarn in a deep bowl or waste basket but if you mean color work I put each color in a plastic grocery bag poke a hole for yarn to go thru and use bag handles tied together to keep it in. If you are taking about weaving I wind the yarn around a warping board then tie it and the yarn is wound on the shuttle. I hope this helps.. In hard times we need to pull every bit of frugal knowledge out to use

    Hi Becky!
Dish cloths? How beautiful they're going to be!

I want to thank you for putting the kitties in baskets for me so that I can steal them easier!! I'll bring them back when I'm done snuggling their sweet furriness!! I miss having kitties. I got a freak case of mono when I was 30. It lasted eleven months! It left me with new allergies. One was to cats. I had 4! No, under no circumstances would I let go of my babies, but I had a tough time. I developed asthma and had regular allergy treatments. I kept them all until they died from old age, the average 18 years. Then my mom moved in and brought her sweet kitty. And naturally I kept her after my mom died. Her kitty lived to 23!!! I've noticed that the allergies to cats ha gotten worse so I just can't have anymore. ☹️. I sure miss having them!

I haven't been around because I've been sick. A long lingering cold that I'm still coughing from. I'm so far behind in everything and Spring is nearly here! Yikes!! That's going to add a heap more work when the yard comes back to life. I'm looking forward to warmer days, but dreading the work. If I had completed my winter chores, I wouldn't dread the yard. I enjoy puttering around out there.

We're looking for new ways to save money, like everyone else. If we hadn't been well stocked already, we'd be a world of hurt. As it is,bits gonna take a lot of hard choices. And yet I'm so grateful for the peace and safety.

    Have a good week!
