Monday Message

"Our Heavenly Father created this beautiful earth, with all its abundance, for our benefit and use. His purpose is to provide for our needs as we walk in faith and obedience. He has lovingly commanded us to ‘prepare every needful thing’ (see D&C 109:8) so that, should adversity come, we may care for ourselves and our neighbors, and support bishops as they care for others." (All is Safely Gathered In pamphlet)

I think back over my years about how trying to build my skills have been so very important to our family. With ups and downs in our finances, my ability to do things with these very skills got us through rough times. Think back on your hard times, what did you do to make it through?

I so wish I could have learned a lot sooner but there was no one to show the way, that is why I feel it so important to teach things to others.

These days you merely have to type in a thing on the computer and all you need to learn it is right there before you.

Now that I am older do I still need to build skills?? You bet I do! Almost more than ever before. With a limited income we must stretch that budget. These are all things you never out-grow.

So if you find yourself in tight times, what can you do to offset it especially with these higher prices?

I have a lot on my blog, it goes back years and years and years so go back through the posts.

Prices are high and going higher with no stopping in sight. How do you manage? Well the first thing is that some of the more expensive recipes you have been fixing will have to be set aside for a while. Get out your file of recipes and go through it. I am sure you have favorite recipes that cost a lot less. For me that is chili and cinnamon rolls.

You can find budget cookbooks and bread books here - https://www.freereadfeed.com/ Or visit your library. Find frugal cookbooks, put your feet up and find recipes that are frugal and look great.

Ask relatives for some frugal recipes, you will have quite a collection.

Tomorrow (as I'm writing this) the high will be 63, I think that might be a good day for chili.

What are your favorite frugal meals? Let us know in the comments below.

Making bread is pretty frugal so build that skill.

I have been tying to make this stitch marker never having beaded before. It took me nine attempts to do this...

I will still perfect it.

These are garlic chives, very pretty.

Then something amazing happened that never happened before...

Our lilacs bloomed again. This is amazing, the weather has gone amuck.

With times being hard and getting harder, I think we need to make every little bit count, it is doing the best we can.

Missy says ponder ways you could be more frugal.

Gus said build those skills and if you don't have a sewing machine look at yard sales and thrift stores - be sure to try before you buy.

  1. We really do enjoy beans and rice and a hot pan of cornbread. The beans can be seasoned so many ways that they are not just beans and rice. We add a bit of ham or some smoked sausage and a little browned hot breakfast sausage is really good. A spoonful of salsa or some peppers and onions add flavor. The ways to season are endless. We can our own beans and they are truly delicious. Leftover cornbread can be split and buttered and toasted in a skillet or throw it in the freezer for another day if you have leftovers.

  2. HOLA BECKY: QUE HERMOSO QUE ES COMPARTIR NUESTROS CONOCIMIENTOS CON LOS DEMAS, EN ESTOS TIEMPOS TAN DIFICILES, HAY QUE SABER HACER MUCHAS COSAS, COCINAR DESDE CERO, HACER NUESTRA PROPIA ROPA INTERIOR, TEJER MEDIAS, HACERNOS LA ROPA, ECT. AQUI YA NADA SE PUEDE COMPRAR, LOS PRECIOS ESTAN POR LAS NUBES, ES INCREIBLE QUE EL DINERO NO DURE MUCHO EN NUESTRAS MANOS Y ESO ME ENOJA MUCHISIMO, NOS ESTAN ROBANDO DESDE EL GOBIERNO Y EN LOS SUPERMERCADOS Y ELLOS CADA VEZ ESTAN MAS RICOS. CUESTA MUCHO COMPRAR LO NECESARIO Y NI HABLAR DE COMPRAR ROPA, ME SIENTO UN POCO FRUSTRADA POR TODO ESTO, A VECES ESTOY CANSADA Y NO SE QUE HACER ¿PUEDES ORAR POR MI? NECESITO FUERZAS PARA PODER SEGUIR SIN DESANIMARME EN EL CAMINO. MI HIJA SERA OPERADA MAÑANA 20 DE SEPTIEMBRE, ELLA ES DISCAPACITADA Y LA VAN A OPERAR DE LA VESICULA, TIENE 15 AÑOS, AGRADECERE TUS ORACIONES. BENDICIONES Y UN ABRAZO A LA DISTANCIA.

  3. Hello Becky I have commented on occasion but read your blog every week. I have learned so much from you and have found inspiration from your lovely posts. This year I have been trying to put aside as much as possible from the garden and gleaning from others who offer. Tomorrow I will be going to a berry farm to pick Marion berries for free!! It's such a blessing I can't even believe it 🙂 from the berries I am going to make jam, pie filling and syrup for pancakes this winter. Also I noticed the fire station down the road is giving away the apples from their tree I hope you get some to make apple sauce and from the peels and cores apple jelly maybe even some apple cinnamon syrup. Blessings come in many forms. I happen to be at Walmart walking the aisles and noticed bushes baked beans in the 55ounce cans for $1.35 ! I bought them all!! I got up at the checkout and it rang up $4.58 I told the cashier about the price and she said I was the second person to come through with them and adjusted the price 😉 black beans, tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, tomato puree all 25 cents a can !! The Lord truly was on the lookout for bargains for me...I wasn't even looking LOL keep a look out He is blessing us every day IF we are listening to his voice. Thank you for your inspiration and wisdom love Gaila in the NW

  5. Your beading is beautiful! So dainty!

Grocery prices are staggering. For that matter, so are prices for everything. We're hanging in there, but I'm not sure if we can handle much more. It's pretty scary. Thanks for reminding me about old recipes! My dear mother in-law gave me her old recipe box. With a large brood, she was an expert on low cost, but healthy meals! Time to take a closer look! My family is Hispanic and we grew up on beans so I'm always up for a crock of those. With tortillas...yum!!

Missy always looks like she sees something to pounce! Give her and Gus a scratch for me!
