"Today, I emphasize a most basic principle: home production and storage. Have you ever paused to realize what would happen to your community or nation if transportation were paralyzed or if we had a war or depression? How would you and your neighbors obtain food? How long would the corner grocery store—or supermarket—sustain the needs of the community?" (President Ezra Taft Benson)
I wanted this quote again because we are seeing first-hand what could happen. Now that the holiday travel season is upon us, it's important to keep staying safe with the pandemic still in full gear. My wish for all is to stay safe and to love one another.
Like Gus, I have been getting ready to nest for the winter, I have been finishing up deep cleaning projects. I am wanting to be in the warm sunshine working on fun projects that I have been gearing up for.
I have finished making the mixes I wanted to make. This will help me in meal preps.
I have great books to curl up with.
These are a few of the things I plan to work on while the storms rage outside. I want to build my skills and take time to slow down. We don't have to go go go all the time. Pop some corn, grab a blanket and a book...you know you want to.
Missy says have some food and litter or toilet paper in so you can weather any storm that may come. She also says have treats on hand too.
Hi Becky! Your babies look completely confident that they're fully prepared for anything!!
ReplyDeleteI definitely have what we need to hunker down for winter. We will probably do one last Sam's run for the year. We have to have our fancy monthly hot dog date! Plus a few holiday things we enjoy once a year.
We always do a home improvement type of project over Thanksgiving. We're always alone so we enjoy the day off except to prep. Usually we paint and redecorate a room, circling the house every 10 years or so. That has worked well for us, particularly as we're aging and recovery time is longer!!! This week, we're working on the wood cabinets and molding in the master bathroom. It's very waterlogged and we're going to refinish and seal the oak. We plan the room a year ahead to take advantage of buying what we need during sales. For example, we already know that next year's room is the basement guest room. It was my craft room in the past (craft room is now upstairs). It hasn't been painted in 16 years!! I won a beautiful quilt at a raffle and that is my starting point. I will need paint, some new curtains, etc. We will shop for those during great sales for all of 22. By Thanksgiving of next year, we'll have a new guest room for pretty cheap. My experience says it'll cost less than $100 total.
Sorry to yak so much!
Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours. Share a tiny bit of turkey with Gus and Missy, but not too much! My cats used to herd around the stove every year when my mom was cooking and we'd laugh while she was trying to chase them out lol!!!
What a huge frugal idea I love it thank you for sharing it was so nice of you. Yes the kittens love turkey they are more then ready. You have a great Thanksgiving too.
DeleteGus and Missy look so cozy and ready to nap through all sorts of winter weather! Piglet the tuxedo cat is on my lap, which is only one of his many napping places.
ReplyDeleteI started writing out my list of goals for 2022 today, things that I want to accomplish. Some knitting and crochet projects, finishing the cross-stitch project I inherited from my grandmother, working my way through some educational books. I'll have plenty to keep me busy when it's too cold to be outside. I may make one more trip to our bulk food store in order to get some extra flour, but I'm pretty well stocked up for the season. :) Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
I love having a cat on my lap. Yes I want to hibernate...it sounds like you have many fun projects to look forward too as well. Thanks for sharing and you have a great Thanksgiving too.

DeleteYour bookcase is so colorful! I would love to slowly scan the books. Reminds me of a newspaper article years ago with photos of people's bookcases. Very interesting. Meanwhile, please tell Gus and Missy they are good kitties.
ReplyDeleteThey say thank you. Stand in front of those books they are all cozy mysteries I really like.
